Tubular processing & electrolyte balance Flashcards
1
Q
What occurs in the PCT?
A
- Glucose + Na absorption via SGLT
- Amino acid absorption with amino acids
- Na+ absorption via NHE with H+
Water follows Na+ reabsorption
2
Q
What drug acts on the PCT?
A
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors e.g. acetazolamide
3
Q
What occurs in the descending limb of loop of Henle?
A
Freely permeable to water, Na+ & Cl-
4
Q
What drug acts on the descending limb?
A
Osmotic diuretics e.g. Mannitol
5
Q
What occurs in the thin ascending limb?
A
Impermeable to water. Minimal Na + Cl
6
Q
What occurs in the thick ascending limb?
A
Impermeable to water, actively pumps Na into interstitium.
- Na+ in via antiport with H+
- Na+ in via Na/K/2Cl symport
-Na+ into interstium via NaKATPase
7
Q
What drug acts on the thick A.L?
A
Loop diuretics e.g. Furosemide - inhibits Na/K/2Cl symport
