what is Bartter’s syndrome?

A

affects Na/K/2Cl of the thick ascending limb
results in excretion of Na, K, and Cl–>low plasma levels
Na loss–> increased aldosterone–> increased K loss (kypokalemia)
treatment: K supplements, aldosterone angatabonist

what is Gitelman’s syndrome?

A

affects Na/Cl transporter of collecting tubule
symptoms: hypovolemic- stimulates RAAS
-hypokalemia and alkalosis
treat with K sparing diuretic (spironolactone)

what is Liddle’s syndrome?

A
dysregulation of ENac in principal cells (more of them)
-->more Na reabsorption
high plasma concentrations
looks similar to hyperaldosteronism
K sparing diuretic (amiloride)
