• Communism appealed to poor people who wanted money so USA gave European countries more money
‘bribing’ them in to staying capitalist
• Countries must trade with the USA to get any money
• The USA gave $13 billion in ‘Marshall aid’ to 16 Western European countries

The USSR criticised the marshall plans as an attack on them
The marshall plan created a larger divide in between east and west.
