Normocalcemic hyperparathyroidism
-Early form of primary hyperparathyroidism
-Normal calcium level with an elevated PTH level
-Sx similar to hypercalcemic hyperparathyroidism= bone, renal, cardiac
-Distinguish from secondary hyperparathyroidism by measuring serum creatinne level (CKD) and vitamin D levels (vitamin D deficiency)
Most likely locations of superior & inferior parathyroid gland
-Superior parathyroid gland: within 2-cm area of point of intersection of inferior thyroid artery & recurrent laryngeal nerve. However, if not found at anatomical location, tracheosophageal groove is most common location
-Thyrothymic ligament (cervical thymus, thymus, tongue of thymus) is the most common location of ectopic inferior parathyroid
-The most common location of a missed adenoma, if reoperating is the tracheoesophageal groove
