Your supervisor has made you aware of a turbine that has gone offline/out of operation. How do you go about troubleshooting?

A
  • Log onto the turbine through VOT interface.
  • Note alarm ID and refer to the “Alarms and Warnings” document.
  • Gives information on fault I.e. Safety circuit/Control circuit/Devices.
  • Refer to the Schematics and find the relevant circuit, giving information of devices, cabinets, RDSPP codes etc.
  • Identify potential devices to test when on WTG and take spares.

When on the turbine at a fault that you have previously investigated, what process would you follow to further identify the issue?

A
  • Inspect the suspected area/circuit for obvious signs, such as…
    • Visual damage
    • Abnormal smells
    • Strange noises
    • Heat
  • Depending on the device/circuitry, test it is getting voltage/flow when it should be.
  • Test the device for manual operation.
  • Test fuses/wiring for continuity.
