- Oil prices rose- Brazils import bill increased as it tried to grow industry
- LOANS- Brazils borrowed from oil rich countries+ world bank. Export profits had to be payed on loans.

- Interference in hydrological cycle- further reduction in rainforest+farming
- interference in nutrient cycle- less fertile soil can lead to runoff
- Greenhosue effect due to less trees.

- boycotting- goods made in forest( timber making)
- buying parts of the forest- charities
- encouraging non-invasive organisations- use of softwoods –> grow more quickly than hard woods.
