What strategies are made to manage landforms?

A
  • Timber resentments- Break power of the wave/ expensive/ short life.
  • Drainage pipes in cliff and shrub planting- drains cliff and roots of plants bind cliff together.
  • Sea walls- reflect power of the wave/expensive
  • Gabion cages support base of cliff; ugly; cheap
  • Beach feeding- Best natural defence/ expensive

Q

What are the different strategies for the community to deal with the cliff erosion?

A
  • Cost benefit analysis policy- If the land is 5x more than the defences will cost then they will protect the land.
  • Managed retreat- low spending over a period of time
  • red lining- council estimates where coast will be in 60 years time and doesn’t allow planing permission for anything on the seaside line.
  • Holding the line- money spent on defences is a priority.
  • let if fall- No money, let nature take over.
