Book of Psalms
A book in the Old Testament. They are mostly centred around the praise of God. Examples: the Lord is my Shepard, Eagle’s Wings and By the Rivers of Babylon.
Divine Office
The public service of praise amd worship consisting of psalms, hymns, prayers and readings.
Contemporary Worship Music
Music from 1970s onwards. Full range of instuments can be used, more lively and more complicated to sing. Examples: Here I am to Worship, Ten thousand Reasons.

Hebrew Word - “Praise God”
Hymn of joy, triumph and praise of God
Gloria (Mass)
Based on the hymn of angels in Luke 2:14
Used to convey the feeling of thankfullness to God for all his care and love.
Not said during the seasons of Lent and Advent (penitential periods).
Eucharistic Acclamations
Prayer of hymns sung by the congregation after receiving the Eucharist.
Holy Holy (Sanctus)
Sanctus - Latin word meaning Holy
Based on Isaiah in the Temple
Idea pf the three Persons in one God being thrive holy gives the hymn more meaning.
Mystery of Faith (Memorial Acclamation)
Consecration say this immediately after consecration.
Represents the saving event of Jesus, it is through thud event that God shows the depth of His love for all people and so it should be said powerfully and whole - heartedly.
Lord Have Mercy (Kyrie)
Asking God to have mercy on us and to forgive us of our sins.
Lamb of God (Agnus Dei)
Asking Jesus to forgive us from our sins.
Great Amen
An affirmation of faith and way to say “Praise you God!”
Triune God
Stresses the fact that within the one God there is a three-ness
Trinity
Focuses on the distinctive qualities of each of the three Persons : the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Shema
Shows us that Judaism and Christiantity are monotheistic religions.
Nicene Creed
Outlines the basis of our faith. Speaks about it being a monotheistic religion, the Holy Trinity, cruxifiction of Jesus and judgement day.
Begotten not Made
Jesis is the only actual being taken out from the same substance of the Father.
Consubstantial
Made out of the “same substance” of the Father
Spoken through the prophets
Shows evidence for the Holy Spirit
Mission
“Sending out” people with a job or function to perform
Evangelism
Preaching the good news about Jesus to other people
St Augustine of Hippo (Trinity)
Says that to have love you need: “a lover, the person they love and the love that unites them”. This is true for the Trinity: the Father loves the Son and the Son loves the Father. The Holy Spirit is the love that unites them.
Catherine LaCugna
Says that the Son comes from the Father and is without beginning or end. The son is continually and eternally coming from the Father. The Holy Spirit is the eternal bond between the Father and the Son. The continual creative act flows outwards into the whole of creation. Jesus came to earth to bring people back to God and the Holy Spirit. Once the task of redemption is fulfilled all things will be brought back to God.
Magisterial Teachings
Nicea: The Son is eternally begotten from the Father. This means he has no beginning or end.
The Father and Son have always existed together and are of the same nature.
Constantinople: The Holy Spirit is the Lord, the Giver of Life.
He proceeds from the Father.
With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.
He spoke theough the prophets.
Baptism
A sign of initiation into belief in Christ.
Washing away of original sin.
To made a sharer in the life of the Father, Son and Spirit.
To receive the grace of God.
Total immestion
Being fully immersed into the water symbolises joining Christ in the tomb and then rising into a new life of the Spirit.
Sign of initiation
Shows how we have joined the Church and a way of life in which we believe in Christ.
Prayer
A passage of words, in which we are communicating with God or another being, e.g. Mary
Traditional Prayer
Prayers that have set words to them which have been used by generations of believers
Spontaneous Prayer
Prayers that do not have a set structure: they are made up as you it.
Prayer postures
Can assist prayer and show the intention behind particular moments of the prayer
Kneeling
Shows that we are submissive to the will of God
Genuflecting
Sign of respect
Acknowlegdement of Christs presence
Prostration
Ultimate sign of submission to God and worship
Bowing
Shows respect
