Q

What is the Sanctus?

A

It’s a Latin word meaning ‘holy’. It’s based on Isaiah in the Temple (Isaiah 6:1-3) when the angels cried out “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts.” ‘Holy’ is repeated thrice to represent the trinity. Can be sung reflectively to show the peace and harmony of heaven or as a jubilant hymn of praise.
