What even is it

A

a synthetic hybrid derived from crossing rye and wheat (usually durum) followed by chromosome doubling. intent was to combine the vigour and hardiness of rye with the baking abilities of wheat.

explain who made it happen

A

1857 Scottish botanist dusted rye pollen on wheat, produced sterile plants.

1937 French botanist produced first triticale capable of producing hybrid seed.

Grown commercially sinde 1970.
