Triple whammy effect Flashcards
1
Q
What do NSAIDs effect on kidney
A
- Vasoconstrict the afferent arteriole to the glomerulus
- Decrease filtration rate and amount of blood in he efferent arteriole
2
Q
What is the consequence of kidney from taking NSAID’s Long term?
A
- decrease in glomerulus filtration rate
- May lead to ischemia of parts of the kidney
3
Q
What is the effect of ACEi and ARB on the kidney?
A
- vasodilate the efferent arteriole
- Protective in diabetes arteriosclerosis
- harmful if stenosis of renal artery, late chronic kidney disease
4
Q
What effect does the Diuretic have on the kidney?
A
-increases plasma clearance and reduce plasma volume
5
Q
What is the triple whammy effect?
A
- acute kidney injury when, NSAIDs, Diuretic and ACEi/ARB is taken together
- Fatal in high risk patients particularly in older population
