Triglycerides vs. Phospholipids Flashcards
1
Q
Triglycerides
A
- 3 fatty acid molecules
- Fatty acid: nonpolar hydrocarbon attached to polar carboxyl group
- Has the hydrocarbon chain so carbon is bonded to hydrogen and those are nonpolar
2
Q
Phospholipids
A
- Fatty acids bound to glycerol
- Phosphate - containing compound replaces 1 fatty acid molecule
- Polar
- Are amphipathic
- Have both hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts
- Hydrophilic head
- Hydrophobic tail
