Cheeks
Triggers of TN
Movement of the face
Tpuching of the face
Drinking or eating hot and cold food or beverage
Brushing of teeth
Signs and symptoms of TN
Pain spasm-like electric or shooting pain
Radiates to cheeks, lips, gums, tongue
Unilateral pain
Diagnostic procedure
MRI either barium dye
Nursing management of TN
Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures (hot and cold)
Chew unaffected side
Administer antispams (Baclofen)
Administer anticonvulsants (Phenobarbital, Carbamizipine (Tegretol), Phenytoin)
Instruct patient not to rub the eye
Soft diet
Avoid pain
First drug of choice for TN
Anticonvulsants
First drug of choice for anticonvulsants
