Main indications?
A
Depressive illness
- Used 3rd/4th line due to toxicity in overdose + side-effects
Sometimes used in chronic pain management

Mechanism of action?
A
Blocks re-uptake of monoamines (mainly noradrenaline and 5-HT) into presynaptic terminals.

Contraindications and cautions?
A
Contraindicated in manic phase of bipolar disorder.

Adverse effects?
A
Anti-cholinergic
- Blurred vision
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Urinary retention
Sedation
