Q

Calculating wind velocity steps

A
  1. Place TMG under index
  2. Put G/S under grommet
  3. Apply difference between TMG and HDG to the TAS arc and mark spot
  4. Move mark to vertical reference line above the grommet
  5. Put grommet back to starting position

Wind speed will be the difference between grommet and mark and wind direction will be aligned under index

Q

When calculating wind velocity, what determines the side you draw the mark

A
  • If HDG is less than TMG then its on the left

- If HDG is greater than TMG then its on the right

Q

Calculating Tack + G/S steps

A
  1. Align index with W/V direction and place grommet on start position
  2. Draw dot over W/V speed on vertical reference line
  3. align index with heading
  4. Move dot drawn onto the TAS arc

G/S will be value under grommet
Track is calculated by adding/subtracting the WCA (which is the horizontal value on the TAS arc) to the heading

Q

When calculating Track and G/S what determines weather you add or subtract the WCA

A
  • If mark is to the right of the grommet Subtract WCA from heading
  • If mark is to the left of the grommet Add WCA to the heading
