Tree Selection Flashcards
Acclimation
Process by which plants an other living organisms adapt physiologically to a climate or environment different form their native environment or where they were grown.
Adaptability
Genetic ability of plants and other living organisms to adjust or acclimate to different environments.
Design criteria
Aspects of the site and required functions to be served by the plant that must be considered in plant selection.
Growth rate
Speed at which something grows.
Hardiness
Ability of a plant to survive low temperatures.
Introduced (non-native) species
Plant species that are not native to a region.
Native species
Plants indigenous to a region; naturally occurring and not introduced by humans.
Naturalized species
A non-native species that has become established in a region and propagates without human assistance.
Site analysis
Determination of the conditions, environment, and needs of a planting site.
