Self determination
–Follows the principle of self-determination which is idea of letting people decide how they want to be governed
Germany’s punishment
•Treaty punished Germany:
–Lost territory
–Restrictions placed on military operations
–Had to accept sole responsibility for the war (war guilt clause)
–Had to pay reparations (money to Allies for damages caused by war)
–Colonies in Africa and Pacific became mandates (territories to be administered by League of Nations)

•Great Britain and France would divide up large portions of the old Ottoman Empire (Middle East) between themselves
–Great Britain would govern Iraq, Transjordan, and Palestine
•–France would govern Syria and Lebanon
