What was the name of the German-Russian treaty?
treaty of Brest-litovsk - 3rd March 1918
What was the German-Russian treaty about?
Russia’s withdrawal from ww1
+ giving G:
- Lithuania
- Latvia
- Estonia
- some of white russia (west)
these areas were fertile + had economic resources
What land did G lose in T of V?
- all land gained in the treaty of brest-litovsk
- Upper Silesia
- Alsace + Lorraine (on border w France)
- Eupen + Malmedy (on border w Belgium)
- G colonies given to Fr + Br

What was Anschluss?

= Germany forbidden to unite with Austria even if both wanted to
What were the military consequences?
- Rhineland became a de-militarised ‘buffer-zone’ for France, remained German but no G troops to enter
- G army limited to 100,000 troops that could not leave G
- Not allowed tanks or heavy artillery
- G fleet only 6 warships, not allowed to have warships over 10,000 tonnes + couldn’t have any submarines
- not allowed an air force
Other T of V terms?
- forced to accept responsibility for damage to the Allies = Article 231
- Had to pay reperations to Allies’ countries to rebuild them
How much were the reperations?
Much arguing over the amount that G should pay
- in 1921, fixed at 132,000 million gold marks = £6.6 billion (at the time)
What did G lose due to land loss?
- 10% loss of Industry
- 15% loss of Agriculture
- 6 million people lost
