What was the purpose of the Treaty of Versailles?
To sanction Germany and to remove the risk of any further wars. Disputes would be resolved using discussion rather than threats of war. 40 countries signed up and agreed that if anyone invaded anyone else they would cease trading with the invaders until the fighting stoped.

Work together to stop: diseases (cholera, small pox and leprosy), stop slavery and stop drug smuggling. Also to improve working conditions.

Woodrow Wilson (USA) wanted to stop Germany from being aggressive
David Lloyd George (UK) wanted to reduce the German threat to the British Empire and British navy, and he was cautious about humiliating the Germans
George Clemenceau (France) wanted revenge because the French had lost 1.4 million men in the great war, as well as great damage to its citys
