Why do people argue the treaty was fair?
- In 1917 the Germans treated Russia awfully via the Brest Litovsk Treaty. It was much worse than the TOV. Giving a harsh treaty was now seen as a ‘prize of war’.
- Economic issues in Germany were self-inflicted, other nations raised taxes, the Kaiser did not which allowed debts to mount up
How has the treaty been seen with hindsight?
- The treaty helped create cruel Nazi Germany and WW2.
- Some Historians believe the treaty was fair as all nations other than Germany would have complained if the treaty was more generous.
- It was difficult to balance public opinion and nations visions, accordingly that was the best which could have been done- view of some Historians
