What is the acute management of a migraine?
First line= combination of an oral triptin and NSAID or an oral triprin and paracetamol
If this doesnt work consider metoclopramide or prochlorperazine and consider adding an NSAID or triptan (non-oral)
What is given for migraine prophylaxis?
Topiramate or Propranolol
Propranolol is the choice in women of child bearing age
How are menstrual onset migraines treated prophylactically?
Frovatriptin or Zolmitriptan as a mini prophylaxis
What is the management for cluster headaches?
Acute- oxygen and subcut triptan
Prophylaxis- Verapamil
How are Tension headaches managed?
Acute- Aspirin, NSAID or paracetamol
Prophylaxis- ancupuncture or Amitriptyline
How are generalised tonic-clonic seizures treated?
Sodium Valproate
Second line= Lamotrigine or Carbamazepine
How are Absence seizures treated?
Sodium Valproate or Ethosuximide
How are myoclonic seizures treated?
Sodium Valproate
Second line= Clonazepam or Lamotrigine
How are focal seizures treated?
Carbamazepine or Lamotrigine
Second line: levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine or sodium valproate
What anti-epileptic should be avoided in women of child bearing age?
Sodium Valproate
How is Myasthenia Gravis treated?
Pyridostigmine
Steriods- Prednisalone
Immunosupressants
What drug has shown to extend survival in MND?
Riluzole
What is the first line management of Trigeminal Neuralgia?
Carbamazepine
