Treatment & Treatment Plan Considerations Flashcards
Acute Stage Time Frame
Moment of Injury to 3-4 days
Acute Symptoms
Redness, Swelling, heat, pain, loss of function, bruising (black, blue, red or purple)
Acute Hydro
Cold
Acute Massage
Decease SNS, inflammation, pain and swelling
Prevent injury
Treat Compensatory
No local onsite or distal work
No PROM for 24-48hours
DO NOT reduce protective spasm
Acute RemEx
Maintain ROM (not increase), AF ROM or active resisted if px free (no PROM unless on unaffected joints)
Acute Homecare
Limited px free active movement in unijured tissue
Subacute Timeframe
2 days to 6 weeks post injury
Subacute Symptoms
Reduction of acute symptoms
Subacute Hydro
Contrast for circulation
Subacute Massage
Reduce edema proximal and distal to site Reduce adhesions
Realign fibers (stretch/tractioning, PIR or PROM)
Subacute RemEx
Increase ROM, active inhibition (reset proprioceptors), passive stretch (length fibres)
Subacute Homecare
Stretch/strengthen (passive stretch, PIR to align scar tissue)
Progessive Strengthening
Chronic Timeframe
Post subacute to current (can be weeks or years)
Chronic Symptoms
Scar tissue formation, reduced ROM, weakness in tissue
Chronic Hydro
Heat (soften adhesions)
