Treatment Procedures Flashcards
Arthroplasty
Surgical procedure to repair a joint (restore a function).
Total hip arthroplasty is the replacement of the head of the femur and acetabulum with artificial parts that are cemented into the bone.
Laminectomy
Removal of a piece of backbone to relieve pressure on nerves from a herniated disc.
A type of surgery where the surgeon removes a part or all of the vertebral bone (lamina) that helps ease pressure on the spinal cord or or the nerve roots that may be caused by injury, herniated disk, narrowing of the canal (spinal stenosis), or tumors.
Microscopic Discectomy
Surgical removal of a herniated intervertebral disc with an incision that is 1 to 2 inches long and visualization of the surgical field with an operating microscope.
Vertebroplasty
Surgical repair of vertebrae. Special cement is injected into backbones to strengthen them and to relieve pain caused by compression fractures.
