Ankylosing Spondylitis
Chronic progressive arthritis with stiffening (ankylosis), of joints primarily of the spine and hip.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Compression of the median nerve as it passes between the ligament and the bones and tendons of the wrist (forearm to the palm of the hand and gets squeezed at the wrist.
Symptoms may include numbness, weakness, pain in the hand and wrist and swollen fingers.
Fracture
Breaking of a bone; partial or complete.
Many types of fractures.
Gouty Arthritis
Inflammation of the joints caused by excessive uric acid, aka gout.
When the body has extra uric acid, sharp crystals form in the joints. Symptoms may include pain and swelling in a flare like manner often referred to as gout attacks.
Muscular Dystrophy
An inherited disorder characterized by progressive weakness and degeneration of muscle fibers.
Group of diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. Abnormal genes interfere with production of proteins needed to form healthy muscle.
Osteoporosis
Decrease in bone density with thinning and weakening of bone.
-POROSIS means condition of containing passage spaces.
Develops when bone mineral density and and bone mass decreases or when the structure and strength of bone changes.
Increase risk of fractures.
Rhabdomyolysis
Breakdown of damaged skeletal muscle.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Chronic inflammation of joints; pain, swelling and stiffening especially in the small joints of the hands and feet.
RHEUMAT/O means flowing, descriptive of the swelling in joints.
