Treatment Planning Flashcards
What is the diagnostic data needed or treatment planning
Past medical and dental history
Chief complaint
Comprehensive oral eval
Panoramic x-ray
FMX
Articulated diagnostic casts
What is the main factor to be considered in the selection of a the type of restoration
Amount of dental structure to be prepared in order to achieve the desired esthetics and function
What is the fracture resistance of
1. Feldspathic Porcelain
2. Litium disilicate (Emax)
3. Slip-casting technique
4. Zirconia and metal framework
- Feldspathic Porcelain
- 100-150 MPa - Litium disilicate (Emax)
- Pressed = 400 MPa
- Milled = 360 MPa - Slip-casting technique
- In-ceram Alumina = 600 MPa
- In-Ceram Spinell = 250 MPa
- In-Ceram Zirconia = 700 MPa - Zirconia and metal framework
- >1000 MPa
When selecting the type of restoration its important to consider __ we want on porcelain and on metal / Zr ?
which part of the crown
What are 6 questions you should ask yourself while Tx planning
- Are we replacing an old restoration, is there active disease or is it a virgin tooth?
- What is the restoration going to be occluding against ?
- Does the tooth have a RCT? Do we need an endodontic post?
- Is this tooth a possible RPD abutment? (Surveyed crown)
- Are there any fracture lines that can compromise the tooth integrity?
- Periodontal assessment?
How to determine if a crown should be changed or not?
Evaluate intraorally these 6 things
Margins (open/Close; recurrent decay)
Interproximal contacts (food impaction)
Appropriate contours (gingival health; porcelain chipping; occlusal wear)
Occlusion( MIP and excursive movements; canine guidance / group function)
Shade (esthetic concern)
Phonetics (eval speech; VDO)
How to determine if a crown should be changed or not?
What 3 things should you look for radiographically
Recurrent decay
Overhang
Open Margins
What two crown types look the same radiographically
Full metal crown and monolithic zirconia crown
When considering what the restoration is going to be occluding against, rank the increase in force depending on the thing opposite in occlusion
CD –> RDP –> natural tooth –> implant crown
(forces increase)
What are the space requirements for dental implants
1.5 mm away from neighbor teeth
3 mm between neighbor implants
2 mm away from important anatomical structures (IAN, sinus)
Preparation for ceramic inlay restoration:
Isthmus width =
Pulpal floor =
Divergence or convergence =
1/3 (2mm) intercuspal distance
2mm minimum
6 degree wall divergence
It has been shown the __ containing bases and liners partially inhibit the polymerization of freshly mixed composite resin restorations and that there is a softening of the resin surface adjacent to the __ liner
eugenol
Provisional cements / materials
Non eugenol cements
Light cure composites
Glaze should not be extended to the __ of a restoration , it can decrease the bonding strength
intaglio
When is a vertical percussion test used and when is a horizontal percussion test used
vertical percussion = endo
horizontal percussion = perio
Does a negative vertical percussion test mean the absence of inflammation
NO
The post length should be __ the root length, and __ the length of root in bone with a 4-5 mm apical seal
2/3
1/2
