what is ORIF?

A

open reduction internal fixation

open reduction may have to be used if: closed reduction fails e.g. as soft tissue interposed between fragments or fragments can’t be held together, large articular fragement, avulsion fractures, operation needed for assoc. injuries e.g. arterial damage.
