as relapse rates are higher in families with high expressed emotion, hostility and criticism etc.

- psychoeducation - helping the person and their careers to understand and be better able to deal with the illness

- based on principles of operant conditioning
- positive reinforcement

A
primary - anything that gives pleasure e.g. food
secondary - paired with primary e.g. tokens which should be given immediately
