What are some behavioral management techniques for articulation?
Stretching exaggeration of consonants compensatory strategies traditional artic approach strenght training
Traditional artic approach
phonetic placement (visual, physical, verbal cues)
Integral stimulation (watches and listen tasks)
Phonetic derivation - nonspeech gestures to establish targets
Minimal pairs (helps the client to understand contrasts)
Intelligibility drills - Listener is naive to the task and tells the speaker what was heard
Stretching details
Should be steady, contunuous and prolonged
Involves slow movement of articulators beyond their typical ROM may help to increase ROM
Strenght training
WHen should it not be performed??
Oral motor exercise - push tongue against blade.
- contraversial*
- contraindicated for Myathenia Gravis and ALS
The tongue and lips use only ____ to _____ of maximum force in speech while the jaw is just ___
Tongue and lips = 10 - 30% Jaw = 2%
Describe intensity and duration of strenght training for articulation
