anatomy/functions of speech programer Flashcards
The MSP transforms _______ ________ into a ______ ________ from which the motor programming can occur.
MSP = Motor speech programmer
The MSP transforms ABSTRACT PHONEMES into a NEURAL CODE
What does the MSP neural code determine?
List the aspects of movement!
Specific muscle movements needed. (6 aspects of movement) Duration of movement Amplitude of movement Acceleration Deceleration Time to peak velocity Timing of speech events
Where are motor speech plans held? Can they be modified in this area? What does this result in?
They are held in a buffer area (in the brain). They can be modified, and this results in rapid speech.
Where is the MSP held?
Left hemisphere - parietal-frontal and related subcortical circuits - IT ORGANISES LINGUISTIC INPUT!!!!!
Where does the MSP gets its input/information from?
Perisylvian area (left) temporoparietal cortex- insula(may not be involved with Apraxia)- basal ganglia - thalamus
**boadmans’s 6 – yes apraxia/// and aphasia too)
Where exactly is the MSP??
- Premotor area (brocas, supplimental motor area, basal gang-putamen/caudate nucleus –> straiatum and cerebellar)
- Parietal lobe somatosensory cortex supramarginal gyrus
- insula?
- *Most common leison points: Brocas, Insula and Basal Gang!!!!!!
- *can happen on either side of the brain**
With AOS, you also see:
Right sided weakness and spasticity, babinski, hyperactive reflexes, Limb Apraxia
