Flaccid oral mech
Atrophy and fasiculations!!!!!
Hypotonia/hypoactive gag/nasal regurgitation
Spastic oral mech
pathological oral reflexes, hyperactive gag, pseudobulbar affect, dysphasia, drooling
Ataxic oral mech
dysmetria in nonspeech jaw-face-tongue movements
Hypokinetic oral mech
orofacial tremors, masked face
hyper. oral mech
abnormal movement during movement and at rest
UUMN
unilat. face/lingual weakness without atrophy or fasiculations
AOS
Chewing swallowing gag WNL. No pathological relexes or tongue weakness
**Check for sensation!!
What is NVOA?
Nonverbal Oral Apraxia - Problems with volitional movements while they can do them involentarily. (common with AOS) **ALWAYS ASSESS for this!!!
DAF?~
processing skills are normal with AOS but DAF can cause more severe breakdowns with AOS and BROCAS than in normal speakers
DEFINE APRAXIA!!!!
Neurologic speech disorder that reflects an impaired capacity to plan or program sesorimotor commands necessary for directing movements that result in phonetically and prosodically normal speech. It can occur if there is phycial damage – or without aphasia
