- Different types of antihypertensives act in different ways so they can be given in combination to reduce blood clots
- Blood pressure can be self monitored and managed.
What are the risks of antihypertensives?
- if blood pressure become too low it could cause drowsiness
- Allergic reaction
- Depression
What do statins reduce?
Cholesterol synthesis
What are the benefits of statins?
Reduce the risk of developing CVD
What are the risks of statins?
Side effects include: Muscle and joint pain, headaches, nausea, digestive system problems and increased risk of diabetes
What do anticoagulants reduce?
reduce blood cutting
reduce the probability of getting CVD
What are the benefits of anticoagulants?
- can prevent new clots forming
* can prevent existing clots from forming
What do platelet inhibitors reduce?
Stickiness of platelets
What are the benefits of platelets inhibitors?
- can prevent new clots forming
* can prevent existing clots from getting larger
What are the risks of platelets inhibitors?
Side effects include: excessive bleeding, rashes, diarrhoea and nausea
What are the risks of anticoagulants?
- cause excessive bleeding
* could damage unborn foetus
