Indicator tape
Specialized tape that will show colored markings when sterilized.
Ergonomic
A specific design for efficiency and comfort in the workplace.
Inspection
Visually checking instruments for proper function, sharpness, and an intact coating.
Pitting
Damage from wear to the outer surface of the instrument.
This is seen on inspection and instruments with pitting must be taken out of service.
Borescope
A small, flexible camera used to inspect the internal parts of an instrument, such as the lumen.
Preceptor
A trainer in the department who assists with orientation and the training of new employees.
Workstation
A designated desk-type are supplied and ready for tray assembly and wrapping.
Filter
A product made of specialized paper, sized to fit a manufacturer’s pan.
The size and type to use is dependent on the IFU.
Gasket
Rubberizes seal that fits in track along the inside of the hard-sided pan.
Implant load
Any item to remain inside the body because of a surgical procedure is considered an implant such as plates and screws for a fracture repair.
The load refers tot he sterilization load they are processed in.
Each load has a specialized identifying number and date affiliated with the autoclave.
Process Challenge Device (PCD)
Used to verify the sterilizing process and the manner and used during a sterilization load run.
These are created specifically for a particular parameter of temperature and exposure time.
