Malaria

A
  • Parasite: P.falciparum, P vivax
  • mosquito bourne
  • High risk travellors (preg, children, immunocomprimised)
  • no vaccine, can use 100mg OD doxy (up to 4 weeks after to kill parasite when they are release from hiding in the liver , atovaquone better option but $$)

no specific tx or preventative tx, just supportive

rabies

A

saliva of infected mammals

fatal once symtpoms develop

x3 vaccines (700 dollars)

if bitten need IG injected around wound and 4-5IM vaccines

A

vaccination is often to prevent international spread
