- sexually transmitted! as well as mosquito introduced
- bad for pregnancies
- couple: 3/12; male 3/12, women 2/12 if alone
- dont travel while pregnant!

- Malaria
A
- country dependent and time of year dependent: CDC
- night time mozzies
- worse w pregnancy
- highest risk : oceania/west africa. some SE asia/america
- Rx:
1 ) malarone: 1 tab/day; 1-2 days prior, 7 days post return. not for pregnancy
2) doxy, 1-2 days prior, 4 weeks post. not for pregnancy. sun precuation
3) chloroquine, lots of resitance, once wekly only + safe for pregancny, start weeks prior then 4 weeks post.

Vaccines
A
- usual : specifically fluvax + mmr + varicella + tetanus
- hep B + A
- hep A x 1, again in 6-12 months
- hep B can give with Hep A / in accelarated course: 0, 7, 21, 12 months.
- rabies: all other countries other than Aus have rabies
- day 0, 7, 21-28 IMI
- typhoid: most areas
- 1 IMI dose 2 weeks prior, or 4 PO live vaccines, 1 week prior.
- can get combo hep A/typhoid.
- cholera: oral vaccines, 2-3 doses over 1-6 weeks between.
- yellow fever: single live vaccine (africa/south africa)

Altitude
A
> 800 ft usually
- best to ascend slowly, sleep at < 500m increments.
- only Rx: descend
- symptomatic: acetazolamide BD, day prior + cont for 2-3 days. vs. dex 2mg QID
- watch for serious complications/APO/ALOC.
