Scene size up steps
- Determines scene is safe
- Determines MOI
- Determines number of patients
- Requests additional EMS (if necessary)
- Considers stabilization of spine
Primary survey/resuscitation
- Verbalizes general impression of patient
- Determines LOC
- Determines chief complaint/apparent life threats
- Airway
- Breathing
- Circulation
- Identifies pt priority based on GCS
Airway
- Opens and assesses airway
2. Inserts adjunct as needed
Breathing
- Assesses breathing
- Assures adequate ventilation
- Initiates appropriate oxygen therapy
- Manages any injury that may compromise breathing
Circulation
- Checks pulse
- Assesses skin color, temp or condition
- Assesses for and controls any major bleeding
- Initiates shock management
