Trauma Catagories Flashcards
Category Alpha
- Motor GCS less than 6
-SBP: 65+ less than 110 mmHg
10-64 less than 90 mmHg
10-, less than 70+(2x age)
-SpO2 less than 90%
-HR >/= SBP if older than 10
-RR less than 10 or greater than 29
Category Bravo
-Pelvic Fractures
-Suspected spinal injury with new motor or sensory loss
-Penetrating injuries to head, neck, torso,
or extremities proximal to elbow or knee
- Chest wall instability or deformity
- Crushed, degloved, mangled, or
pulseless extremity
- Amputations proximal to wrist or ankles
- 2 or more proximal long bone fractures
- Open or depressed skull fracture
-Active bleeding requiring control with TQ / wound packing with continuous pressure.
Category Charlie
-Exposure to explosion
- Adult fall greater then 10 feet (all ages)
-High risk crash
- intrusion into cabin greater than 12
inches, greater than 18 inches
anywhere else
- Need for extrication
-Ejection
-Death in same passenger
compartment
-Vehicle telemetry data indicating high
risk of injury
-Rollover without restraint
-Auto vs. Pedestrian, greater than 20
mph
-Motorcycle (etc.) crash where passenger was separated from
vehicle w/ significant impact
Category Delta
- Older adults
-Older than 55- Low impact mechanisms may qual.
- Children w/ low level falls and symptomatic head impact
- Burns
-Traumatic mechanism takes priority
for ER considerations
-Pregnancy greater than 20 weeks
-Clinician Judgement - Anticoagulants or bleeding disorders

Hypovolemia Hypoxia Hydogen ion Hypokalemia Hypothermia Tamponade Toxins Tension Pneumothorax Thrombosis (cardiac and pulmonary)
