Trauma 4 - Long Term Complications of Primary Tooth Trauma Flashcards

1
Q

Immediate trauma instructions for all injuries

A
  1. Soft diet for 10-14 days
    - Normal diet just cut everything small and chew with molars
  2. Brush with soft toothbrush after every meal
  3. Topical chlorrhexidine by parent twice daily for 1 week (on cotton wool rolls for swabbing)

Intrusion requires more frequent review

Q

Why are endo files avoided for enamel-dentine pulp fractures?

A

Endo file might encroach upon the follicle thats around the permanent tooth

We want to work 2mm back from the radiographic apex

Q

Why would you need localisation of intrusion injury with one film?

A

To decide whether the root of the tooth has gone into the permanent tooth germ or not

Or gone buccally or labially away from the tooth germ

7
Q

How would you take a localisation of intrusion injury with one PA? (3)

A
  • Take a periapical size film
  • If the apical tip appears shorter than the contralateral tooth then it has been displaced towards or through the buccal plate (preferable direction as its away from the developing tooth germ)
  • If the apical tip is indistinct and the tooth appears elongated in comparison to the contralateral tooth then the apex is displaced towards the permanent tooth germ
