Trauma 4 - Long Term Complications Flashcards
Long term effects of trauma in primary teeth (3)
- Discolouration
- Discolouration + infection
- Delayed exfoliation of primary tooth
What does an opaque radiograph usually indicate?
Sclerosis of the canal
No tx for it
How do we tx vital discolouration +- infection?
No tx
How do we tx non-vital discolouration +- infection?
Sinus or PAP on radiograph
RCT or extraction
How do we tx no sinus or PAP?
Leave and review
What can immediate discolouration post trauma maintain?
Vitality
What can intermediate change of colour in weeks indicate?
Tooth is non-vital
Where does this discolouration come from?
Necrotic pulp products in the dentine tubules
Course of action for a delayed exfoliation of a primary tooth
Extraction or permanent successor will erupt ectopically
Name 2 enamel defects
- Hypomineralisation
- White/yellow spot
- Normal thickness of enamel
TX OPTION:
- Leave
- Mask with composite
- Localised removal + restore with composite
- External bleaching
- Hypoplasia
- Yellow/brown areas
- Less than normal enamel thickness
TX OPTION:
- Restore with composite
- Gingival level stabilised
Tx for crown dilaceration (3)
- Surgical exposure
- Orthodontic realignment
- Improve appearance
How can premature loss of a primary tooth result in delayed eruption?
Delayed for about 1 year possibly due to thickened mucosa
Take radiographs if greater than 6 month delay compared to contralateral
