trauma Flashcards

1
Q

what are the main principles of management for luxation injuries

A

1) reduction
- reposition teeth and tissues to original position

2) fixation (Splinting)
- stabilise and maintain teeth position to optimise healing outcomes for pulp and PDL
- improve function and comfort

3) endodontic monitoring

Q

s/s of root fracture in primary dentition and how to manage

A
  • soft tissue injury common
  • may have displacement or mobility of coronal fragment
  • may have occlusal interference

mx:
- take radiograph for baseline and dx

immediate mx:
- if coronal fragment is not displaced then no tx
- if coronal fragment is displaced and NOT excessively mobile then leave alone to spontaneously reposition
- if coronal fragment is excessively mobile then extract loose coronal fragment and flexible splint for 4 weeks

recall:
- 1 week
- 4 weeks
- 6-8 weeks
- 1 year

Q

s/s of alveolar fracture and how to manage

A
  • mobility and dislocation of segment with several teeth moving together
  • usually have occlusal interference

mx:
- take radiograph for baseline and diagnosis
- lateral radiograph can give info on displacement direction
- reposition displaced segment and flexible splint for 4 weeks

recall intervals:
- 1 week
- 4 weeks
- 6-8 weeks
- 1 year
- 6 yo
