Q

how do retrotransposons create two copies of DNA

A

the dna that is the transposable elements gets copied to an rna intermediate element which gets reverse transcribed by transcriptase. 2nd portion gets integrated into new section of genome

Q

process of translocation in prokaryotes:

A
  1. transposase cuts an insertion site
  2. an insertion sequence is inserted
  3. host dna repair mechanisms fill gaps creating a flank host duplication
