transport systems in plants Flashcards
1
Q
what does the phloem tissue do?
A
it transports dissolved sugars from the leaves to the rest of the plant, including the growing regions and storage organs.
2
Q
what does the xylem tissue do?
A
it transports water and minerals ions from the roots to the stems and leaves.
3
Q
why is transport so important?
A
it is vital to move the food made by photosynthesis around the plant - all the cells need sugars for respiration as well as for providing materials for growth.also the mineral ions are needed for the production of proteins and other molecules within the cells.
