transport systems in animals Flashcards
A
pulamory vein
receives oxygenated blood from the lungs
left atrium
receives oxygenated blood from the pulmonary vein
left ventricle
pumps blood around the body through the aorta
aorta
the main artery that carries blood away from your heart to the test of the body
vena cava
the main vein that receives blood from the rest of the body to the heart
right atrium
receives deoxygenated blood from the vena cava
right venticle
pumps blood around the body through the pulmonary artery
pulmonary artery
carrys blood to the lungs 🫁
valves
stops backflow of blood in veins
why do arteries not need valves
the high pressure of blood only allows your blood to flow in one direction
coronary arteries
supply the hearts 🫀 tissue with oxygen
artery
thick muscular walls with a narrow central channel carrying blood under high pressure away from the heart
vein
thinner walls with a wider channel, low pressure with valves. flowing towards the heart
capillary
thiner walls with a large surface area. form networks at tissues and organs to alow efficient exchange of materials
