Transport In Plants Flashcards
When we talk about transport in plants(movement of substances),
What kind of movement we are talking about?
And what substances we are looking at( in flowering plants what substances would need to be transported)
Type of movements- large distance, short distance
Types of substances- water, mineral nutrients, organic nutrients and plant growth regulators
Over small distances ,substances move by which processes? Also state route of that movement ?
Diffusion(between cell and outside) and cytoplasmic streaming(inside cell/moving of cytoplasm for movement of substances inside cytoplasm)
Transport over large substances occur by?what is this process called?
Through vascular system(xylem and phloem) and is called translocation.
Direction of movement of plant growth regulators is usually?
Sometimes in a strictly polarised or unidirectional manner
What are the three means of transport of substances in plants?
Simple diffusion
Facilitated transport
Active transport
Movement by diffusion may be from where to where
From one part of cell to the other
From cell to cell
Or over short distances like from intercellular spaces to the outside
Which process is the only means for gaseous movement within the plant body?
Diffusion
On what factors diffusion rates are affected?
Gradient of concentration, temp ,pressure and permeability of the membrane separating concentration gradient
