when is allogeneic transplant preferred?

A

“stem cell” disorder: AML, ALL, CLL, CML, myelodysplasia
exceptions:
1. MM: autologous
2. Follicular NHL: allogenic
3. Aggressive lymphoma w/ no remission: allogenic for GVH effect

GVHD - which organs are affected

A

skin - rash
liver - increased LFTs
GI tract - nausea/vomiting/diarrhea

Reduced intensity allogeneic stem cell transplant

A

pts get minimal chemo - enough to suppress immune system to prevent donor cell rejection
Donor cells infused - donor cells do the work of rejecting the tumor - COOL
