Transmission/absorption Flashcards
1
Q
What is transmission
A
Waves passing through a transparent material
2
Q
What happens if a material is less transparent
A
Less light will pass through the material
3
Q
What happens in absorption?
A
If the frequency of light matches the energy of the electrons the light will be absorbed by the electrons and not reemitted, the electrons will be absorbed and remitted over time as heat, so that particular frequency has been absorbed
4
Q
An example of absorption
A
Sunlight landing on face is mostly absorbed warming the skin
5
Q
And example of transmission
A
Light passing through a glass window continues with over 95%of its energy
