Primary issues related to aging
Limitations related to decreased strength, ROM, limited independence in ADL’s/amb/mobility
Need assist in school age years = most likely need help in adulthood
Pain- most frequent back and neck
Surgical repair of club feet often associated with increased plain and stiffness in adulthood
Arthritic changes in wb joints, overuse syndromes due to compensatory strategies
OA, carpal tunnel, neuropathies may develop as result of joint restrictions and deformities
Increasing mm weakness occurs early in adulthood
AD of w/c or power chair more commonly seen in adults –adults often use for long distances
Education on occupation: avoid manual labor
Intervention Strategies
Stretching not as imperative due to cessation of skeletal growth
Want to maintain flexibility and proper positioning to prevent further deformity
AFO’s for clubfeet not needed once growth is complete
Education regarding long term sequelae
