Transistors Flashcards
Where do electrons flow in the BJT NPN transistor? (TTL)
Electrons flow from the emitter to the collector (Current goes the opposite way)
Where do electrons flow in the BJT PNP transistor? (TTL)
From the collector to the emitter (current flows the opposite way)
Where do electrons flow in the FET N-channel transistor? (CMOS)
Electrons flow from source to drain
Where do electrons flow in FET P-channel transistors? (CMOS)
Electrons flow from the drain to the source
Transistors are used as switches. What are the two states they can be in?
- Cut off
No current
Open circuit
- Saturation
All current flows
Short circuit
In a transistor, what does the the Base, collector and Emitter do?
Base = To pass charge carriers between the Emitter/collector
Collector/Emitter= Collects/emits charge carriers by acting as a +ve or -ve terminal
How can a transistor amplify the signal strength?
By attaching a resistor, the voltage can be amplified from for example 0.1V to 5V through changing the current flowing through the resistor
