Transfers Flashcards
What are the two goals of transfers
To move between services safely and to increase level of independence of the patient so as much as possible make sure the patient is contributing actively to the transferred
What are five you reasons to use the gate belt
Increase safety , reduce falls , decrease injury risk , enable practice a challenging tasks safely , reduce risk of liability if something goes wrong
What are precautions for gait belts
Bearskin , abdominal surgery ,aneurysms ,COPD ,sternal precautions ,colostomy ,fractures ,pumps piercings ,patient refusal
How do you apply a gate belt
Ask about precautions ,apply belt teeth for when you support them your hand should be palm up
What is modified independent assistance
Need equipment
What are the four types of assistance needed
Minimum is patient does 75 percent .
Moderat is patient does 50 to 74 percent.
maximum participant does it 25 to 49 percent total assist or D pendant is patient does less than 25
When should you do a three-person carry
Absolute emergency use only the strongest person should be in the middle or the heaviest part keep the patient turn towards you and close
When using a Lyft where should the ends baby
Short ends at the head long ends at the legs
When should you do is stand pivot transfer
If the patient can assist with weight-bearing through their legs make sure you have them to the edge of the chair first can blocking me with you or me
What is a squat pivot
I modified stand pivot patient comes to partial stand and pivot to sit is more functional and normal understand five it must have more lower extremity strength and for standing
What is the sliding board transfer
Used it for patient is very dependent and there’s no functional lower extremity use position Jarrod and angle proximally 30° so patient is sliding in front of tired for this position at a 45° angle use a series of small control lives or schools the goal is to progress patients away from using the sliding board
What is a lateral school transfer
Sam has a sliding board but without the board in place this requires a lot of strength and latissimus dorsi and scapular muscles as well as control of the elbow
How do you document to transfer
Type of transfer and between what two surfaces and position ,level of assistance , number of people assisting ,what part of skill required assistance such as physical cognitive or safety
What is the first thing you should do when you’re sliding someone up in bed
Lower the head of the bed
For a D pending sliding transfer how many people are usually required
Two people on the transfer toward side and one on the opposite the person at the head counts and controls the transfer make multiple smaller moves rather than momentum
When should you do a three-person Carry
Only in emergencies services should be perpendicular to each other strongest person in the middle or the heaviest part and the taller person should be at the head keep the patient turn towards you and close
How many people make it so you defeated the purpose of a Hoyer lift
If it takes three people or more to do it you defeated the purpose
How should you set up a dependent two-person lift
Have the patient crossed arms over chest if they can one person supports under the size one person supports under the arms and place the chair next to person and laterally so you only move side to side and not forward and back
