Transferring, Storing, and Efficient use of Energy Flashcards
What is ‘Work Done’?
Work Done = ‘Energy Transfer’ that occurs when energy from a force is transferred to another body.
Work Done is measured in Joules (J) or sometimes Newton Metres (Nm)
The Equation > Joules = Force (in Newtons) x Distance (M)
What different type of Work Done are there?
Mechanical Work done: Occurs when Energy from an opposing force is transferred to a body and usually used to move it.
Electrical Work done: Energy which is transferred through the flow of current in a circuit. Usually consumed by a device.
What is ‘Power’ and the Ideas behind it? (1)
Power 1): Is the RATE in which Energy is Transferred.
Power is measured in Watts (W)
Equation 1: Power = Energy ÷ Time (P = E/T)
What is ‘Power’ and the ideas behind it? (2)
Power is the rate in which WORK IS DONE
(Power is the rate in which mechanical work is done)
Power = Joules ÷ Time (S) (P = work done (J) / T)
Power is energy transferred PER SECOND
