Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE) Flashcards
1
Q
What is Gravitational Potential Energy?
A
Gravitational Potential Energy is the potential energy stored when at object is moved at height above the surface of the ground.
2
Q
How does moving an object affect its GPE?
A
When an object is moved at height and then placed somewhere at height (like a shelf) the energy used to move that object is transformed into GPE.
3
Q
What is the Equation for calculating GPE?
A
Ep = M x G x H
where Ep is Energy Potential
M is mass in Kilograms
G is gravitation field strength in N/kg (N=newton)
H is height in metres.
